Hello web surfer! Welcome to the home of all media starring magical and incredible moments of safe/comedic self detachment that we call 'modularity'. We wish to compile any moments from any piece of media! From comics, cartoons, novels, poems, individual art pieces like drawings or sculptures, or even just simple one shot stories or funny scenarios that feature our so beloved fantastical character trait; modularity. Our end goal is to archive all these fun moments for future perservation, as we think this niche is small enough for it to be forgotten by time and thus future potential fanatics of the detachable could be deterred to even indulge in this modular world due to the inexistence of a community surrounding it. We have noticed an absence of such a community as of the writing of this (2005), hopefully you also find these themes enjoyable and stay for a little bit longer!
Modularity stems from the word 'modular', it comes form the latin word: "modulus" which meant a small measure, then as time passed it transformed into the meaning we know today:
"A system that is composed of small parts in which may be easily installed or removed, and when combined, they make a complete funtional whole"
This meaning aligns with what we have seen in multiple pieces of fiction growing up: Characters having this same exact description in their abilities; being able of yoinking their own parts with no biological consequences. Being able of interactions with their own body that are commonly impossible; that either be having your arm be cut and become disembodied from your own body and with full control of your limb retained, you are able to use that disembodied arm as an extention to your reach. Another improbable scenario could be a cut and separation of the body in the abdomen, leaving you in two pieces just like a magician's trick with the box and saw. And the last scenario on this list, but not least important, is of course the classic example of a separation in the neck; resulting in a lone disembodied head and turning 'the rest of you' into an acephalous body. These scenarios offer unique and interesting ways of interacting with the world, as well as raising questions of one's own corporal identity and self expression.
As we have said, this is meant to be some sort of archive in which we store any modular moment from any piece of media. As for how this information is presented: The information brought by us (and also suggestions from the public) are going to be presented in posts showcasing the series in question, and subsequently all the modular moments it may have, showing all particular moments of interests as well as trying to figure out the author's interpretation of the world's modularity.
Another thing we want to express in this website is the milliard of detachable ideas that we, as a team of 4 people, want to show to the web. This is to either inspire visitors of this site to indulge a little bit more into the modular content, or to satisfy the need for more modular content of already interested viewers.
Although not only do we want to personally speak our opinions about an author's take on modularity or our personal ideas about the topic, we also want to have a systematical organization of all these scenarios, that way so we also have a nice standard to potentially introduce the idea of modularity to newcomers.
Now, individual reasons vary as to why we are so in awe at the thought of this idea (see in the "About Us" section for individual explanations from the crew). Sure, most people might think of modularity in a passing simple thought, but we take time to think of all the possibilities that this ability brings just because its so interesting to us. We understand if some people find this fascination a little wierd and uncanny, a little worried at the thought of this 'self-mutilation' but we asure you, that we feel that this is nothing more than a simple, fun and lighthearted fascination!
You can start to browse the posts that have been made in the "Site Navigator" section, we recommend you take a look at the categories of the posts, maybe taking peeps into the "by Author" section, or maybe even the "by Series". But to be perfectly honest, we feel there's no ideal or set way to start exploring the site! Just try and have a good time checking out what we have to offer!
